I only just realised I never posted about having completed the map here. Let me correct that.

Witness with me this historical moment:

In 2023 February, for the 6th anniversary of Hollow Knight, I have finally completed the map!

Check out this video from mossbag about the map:

TO RECAP SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What makes this map different from other maps?

The short answer is that it’s a pure art project, unlike other maps that are functionality-based.

My map is assembled from thousands of screenshots and a lot of draw-over and correction is involved, resulting in a very detailed map that is zoomable to gameplay-view, while other maps are often a single, zoomed out and low resolution screenshot for each room. I also connected each room and area seamlessly which involved “making up” things that don’t exist ingame, for example:

What Now?

You get to enjoy looking at a pretty, complete map! The online interactive version has some mistakes but I no longer have the script I used to cut up the map so I can’t correct them. These mistakes are not present in the downloadable versions, however.

What about dream areas/pantheons/etc?

Initially I was going to include dream areas as a separate layer but due to large traffic to my site, I can’t. When mossbag signal boosted my project and made his video on the map, my hosting company took down my site for over 24 hours with excuses of a DDOS attack happening. They used “visitors sending unusally high amount of requests” as an explanation and they wouldnt listen when I explained to them that I have a Leaflet script operated interactive map with two layers and several zoom levels. They lifted the limitation after 30 hours which greatly minimalised the exposure the site would have gotten thanks to a mossbag video.

Since I have removed the second layer and greatly reduced the zoom level you can use on the online version to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future.

What about Silksong?

In a perfect world, I would make a Silksong map. But we don’t live in a perfect world.

Honestly, I would love to do Silksong’s map, but realistically I cannot dedicate myself to such a project anymore. Hallownest’s map took me **thousands of hours** of work to complete over 5 years, and if I’m honest with myself, I cannot make such commitments anymore especially now that I’m working on my own game.

What about Junkpit?

I chose not to add it, the parallax in there broke me, and it overlaps somewhat with City of Tears.
